Privacy Policy

Introduction

SuperCards LLC, a North Carolina limited liability company ("SuperCards," "we," "our," or "us"), is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the SuperCards desktop application for macOS and mobile application for iOS (collectively, the "Apps"), and when you visit our website at supercards.io.

The short version: SuperCards is designed with privacy at its core. Your flashcards and study data stay on your devices. We don't collect, transmit, or store your personal content. The only personal information we hold is what you choose to give us: your email address if you sign up for the newsletter, buy a supporter license, or write to us.

Information We Do NOT Collect

SuperCards is a local-first application. This means:

✓ Your flashcard content (text, images, decks) is stored only on your device
✓ Your study sessions are not tracked or transmitted
✓ No user accounts are required to use the Apps
✓ No SuperCards servers. Optional sync uses your own iCloud Drive and never passes through us
✓ No analytics or tracking software is included in the Apps
✓ No advertising is displayed

We do not have access to the content you create in SuperCards.

Information That Stays on Your Device

The following data is created and stored locally on your device:

When you export your library to transfer between desktop and mobile, the exported file is saved to a location you choose. We do not receive or process this file.

Information We May Collect

Crash Reports (Optional)

If you choose to submit a bug report or feedback:

You may voluntarily include device information (e.g., "MacBook Pro M2, macOS 14.2")
You may voluntarily include screenshots or descriptions of issues
You may voluntarily provide your email address for follow-up

This information is only collected when you actively submit it through our feedback channels.

Apple App Store and iCloud

The iOS app is distributed through Apple's App Store. If you have chosen to share diagnostics and usage data with app developers in your device settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized crash logs and usage statistics. We do not run any analytics of our own inside the Apps.

If you turn on iCloud sync, your decks are stored in your personal iCloud Drive under your Apple ID. That data is handled by Apple, not by us — it never passes through SuperCards servers, because we don't operate any.

Data collected by Apple is governed by Apple's privacy practices. Please review Apple's Privacy Policy for details.

Website Analytics

Our website at supercards.io uses Ahrefs Web Analytics to count visits and to see which pages are useful. It sets no cookies and does not follow you to other websites.

For each page you view, the service records the page address, the page that referred you, your browser, device type, operating system and language, and an approximate location no more precise than your city. Your IP address is used to work out that location and to count each day's unique visitors, and is then discarded. It is never stored. We also count clicks on the Mac download button and on links to the App Store.

We see these statistics only in aggregate and cannot use them to identify you. We will never use invasive tracking or sell data to third parties. The Apps themselves contain no analytics.

If you sign up for our newsletter on supercards.io, we keep the email address you enter so we can send it to you. We use it only for SuperCards news and updates.

The list is stored with Airtable, and the service we use to send the newsletter handles your address only on our behalf. To unsubscribe or have your address deleted, email support@supercards.io.

Supporter Purchases

Supporter licenses are sold through Stripe, our payment processor. Stripe collects your payment details and processes the payment. We never see or store your full card number.

Stripe gives us your name, your email address, and a record of what you bought. We use these to provide your license and supporter benefits (including the supporter newsletter), to answer questions about your purchase, and to keep the financial records the law requires. Stripe's own handling of your information is covered by Stripe's Privacy Policy.

Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal information.

The only scenarios where data is shared:

Service providers: Airtable stores our newsletter list and Stripe processes supporter purchases, each only to provide that service to us
By your action: When you export and share your deck files with others
Legal requirement: If required by law, court order, or governmental authority
Business transfer: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with notice to users)

Data Security

Since your data is stored locally on your device:

Your device's security measures (encryption, passcode, biometrics) protect your data
We recommend keeping your devices updated with the latest security patches
We recommend backing up your exported files in a secure location

Children's Privacy

SuperCards is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information through our feedback channels, please contact us so we can delete it.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal information:

Access: You have full access to all your data—it's on your device
Deletion: You can delete the Apps and all associated data at any time
Export: You can export all your data using the built-in export feature
Correction: You can edit any of your content directly in the Apps

Since your decks and study data never reach us, most data rights are automatically fulfilled by the local-first design. For the little we do hold (a newsletter address, a purchase record, or an email you sent us), write to legal@supercards.io and we will give you a copy, correct it, or delete it. We keep purchase records for as long as tax law requires.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.

Significant changes (such as the introduction of user accounts or any hosted service) will be communicated through:

Future Features

We may introduce optional user accounts or hosted services in a future version. If we do:

You will be informed of what data will be collected and how it will be used
Such features will be opt-in, and local-only usage will remain available
